DO NOT BUY FROM TRAPEZE ARTS

my doubles trap partner and i bought a bar from trapeze arts not four months ago. upholstery is lovely, but everything else sucks. the ropes are cable core, and were clearly not stretched to fit when the bar was made, so they began sagging the second we began using the bar, leaving a big knot of rope right where your hands should go at the top of the upholstery. not to mention the sagging became far worse if you did any spinning moves around the rope.
then...today the cable core of the trapeze fully pulled out of its crimp or whatever was holding it together inside the upholstered part of the trap while someone was using it, dropping one side of the bar 8 inches or so til it was caught by the cotton ropes. piece of shit all around, and a very expensive one at that. i will be asking for a full refund, and i will not deal there again.
just a little heads-up for anyone looking for equipment.

I understand your frustration, but I have been using Trapeze Arts' trapezes for years as I taught there for 5 years. I've purchased several Trapeze Arts trapezes--without cables--for my new school in Arizona, and they are holding up well.

They started making trapezes without cables a year or so ago when we kept having problems with kinking when doing dynamic/twisting rope moves. Did they ask you whether you wanted cables or not? They usually do ask.

Problems like the ones you mentioned do occur when you have a cable core and do dynamic/twisting moves on the ropes--that is why I get them without the cables for Static Trapeze. Cables work well for Swinging Trapeze though. I do know that they do stretch the ropes before they send them out.

Sounds like it was a miscommunication problem when you were discussing the details of how you wanted your trapeze. I realize you are venting and trying to look out for us here on this group...which I'm sure we all appreciate. However, you did not mention calling them first with your troubles. Lili can be hard to deal with, but I think you should at least try to contact them and tell them your troubles with their equipment--at least give them a chance!

    With sympathy and respect,

    Rachel

you are right...and i i shall alter my words: i'm sure trapeze arts does many things well, but i do not recommend their cable core trapezes.

the issue here is not a miscommunication, i did specifically order a cable-core...but whatever i do on it, be it doubles work or swinging, the point is the cable core came apart! while someone was using it! it was a matter of shoddy construction that endangered someone's body.
as for the ropes...dima of duo artimiev stretches his own cable-core ropes to use with their very dynamic doubles trapeze act, and he does not have the same sagging problems that all three of the cable-core trapeze arts bars i have used have had. it is clear that they have not quite mastered the technique of rope-stretching, and for the price we paid, i definitely expected a lot more.

i am glad to hear you have a good strong personal connection, and a history of positive experience with other products that trapeze arts makes, but i will still stand by my overwhelmingly negative experience with their cable-core trapezes. i am still waiting for a call back from them, so we can discuss it in person...

...and we did. lili was ultimately very helpful in a rapid assessment and re-assembly of the trapeze, even according to my specific re-construction concerns. they provided new ropes and new upholstery...apparently, the faulty part was mysteriously the wrong size. so all fixed, such attention paid to my concerns, and i am very appreciative so i shall eat my words--i shall be taking the newly, more safely remade bar back. the ropes will still probably unwind a little, but the bar will be safe, and we can use it til we find something that will enable more dynamic rope work.

geez, i hate it when people use all caps. did i really type that subject line?

I'm so glad they worked with you on fixing the problem, and I hope it works better this time around. I've always had issues with "roll-up" types of moves with trapezes with cable cores, but hopefully, it won't kink up this time. I've stopped using cable cores altogether for Static Trapeze.

Anyways, we all get angry sometimes and need to vent--so no worries about the venting and all caps ;-)....it is how we resolve the situation that truly matters. I'm glad you posted again!
